Installation for RS21 exhibit at Maitland Art Center. Dimensions 10′ x 10′. Photos, Dina Mack.
My mother passed-away on June 24, 2008—my birthday and wedding anniversary day. Dates, rituals, and how we assign meanings to events are explored in my work. This piece is a cast of my bathtub using my mother’s correspondence, calendars, and other materials. Associations with the womb, a boat and a cradle are also evident. Solitude also included a handmade book with my poem:
The White
Twenty-four Junes
birth
the love,
and the death.
Lush and the grit
still
surrounded by wet
light.
Still
the white
floating
and the floating white.
The work was later displayed via another museum exhibit as Solitude II.
Thanks Jennifer – I LOVE your blog as well.
